What is a Marketing Funnel?

The marketing funnel explains the customer’s journey with your business. It helps explain how the user will interact with your business, then make a purchase from you and become a customer. 

The concept of Marketing Funnel was first founded in 1988 by St. Elmo Lewis. Since then, we have seen a lot of modifications in the marketing funnel because of the constantly changing marketing trends. 


The AIDA Model

The AIDA Model is a well-known marketing model that has now been utilized in digital marketing. AIDA stands for Awareness, Interest, Desire and Action. 

Awareness: This is the first time the user will interact with your business and know that your business exists. Make sure you deliver a good impression. 

Interest: Once people know about your business, it is now time to create interest among them. 

Desire: This step includes touching the customer’s pain points and developing a desire to buy the product. 

Action: This is the step where the user will make a confirmed purchase from you.

5. Build Loyalty

The last stage of the funnel is to build loyalty and make them buy again from you. You can not force them to buy from you again (obviously!), but customers will never forget how their experience was with you. And this can convince them to buy from you again. A few things that matter to building loyalty are:

  • Product or Service Quality
  • Customer Services
  • Pricing
  • Taking action on customer’s feedback
  • Business reputation.


Creating a marketing funnel for your business is just a start. The actual game begins when you start implementing it. And it is not an easy process.
